About the Artist
I was born in Orange County, CA and moved to New England at the age of 11. Being born into a family that spent a lot of time outdoors, skiing and camping, I developed a love for nature at an early age. Together with my husband, we raised three boys in Massachusetts encouraging that nature connection, along with the freedom to follow their own passions and artistic talents. I’ve spent most of my life drawn to art and expressing myself with different mediums and creative ideas. My love of, and connection to, the natural world is a big inspiration for my art. I took every available art class in high school and college, and began taking pastel classes in 1998. I quickly discovered the fulfillment that is provided by creating fine art. Learning to paint with watercolors has always been a goal, so in 2009, I began learning a new medium. I am partial to landscapes and buildings, but also enjoy painting birds, as I find their plumage incredibly beautiful. I prefer to paint details in my work and consider myself a realist, although my favorite artist is Claude Monet, who was an impressionist. He, too, had a love for nature and the outdoors.
Personal art was always a hobby (when I had time between my careers as preschool teacher and assistant manager of a canoeing/kayaking rental outfit), and sharing my passion for creative art and nature was always present in my curriculum and teachings. I retired from teaching in 2020, which gave me the opportunity to focus more on my art, connecting it to places we go on our travels. When I paint a scene that I previously visited, I am transported back as if I were right there again!
